First attempt free for online licence testing and waived permit and probationary licence fees.

From 15 August,2022 the Victorian Government has announced that first attempts to take the Learner Permit Test Online and Hazard Perception Test Online is free under the new Motorist Benefits package. First issue fees for learner permit cards and probationary licences have also been waived. Find out if you’re eligible and how to apply.

Later in 2022, drivers who have not incurred demerit points or committed road safety offences in the previous three years, will be offered a 25 per cent discount off their next licence renewal under the Safe Driver Discount.

From 15 August, 2022 the following fees are now waived for all new Victorian drivers:

Please note: In-person learner permit and licence testing appointment fees as well as Drive Test fees will remain.

To take the Learner Permit Test Online you must:

be at least 15 years 11 months of agebe a Victorian residentbe medically fit to drivenot be disqualified from getting a learner permit for more than 12 months from the date of enrolment andhave a myVicRoads account

If you’ve been unsuccessful passing the Learner Permit Test In-person, you’ll still be eligible for a first attempt free if you enrol into the Learner Permit Test Online.

The online course is currently only available in English. If you require interpreter services, you can still make an appointment to sit the Learner Permit Test In-person at VicRoads Customer Service Centre.

The first issue of a Victorian car and/or motorcycle learner permit is now free. When you visit us to have your learner permit issued, you won’t need to pay the permit fee of $26.

The Hazard Perception Test can be taken by novice drivers, those who need to convert to a probationary licence and those who will convert to a full licence.

The Hazard Perception Test needs to be completed before you can take the Drive Test.

To take the Hazard Perception Test Online you must:

hold a current Australian car learner permit (or have completed the Learner Permit Test Online within the last 12 months) andbe at least 17 years 11 months of age andhave a myVicRoads account

If you’ve been unsuccessful passing the Hazard Perception Test In-person, you’ll still be eligible for a first attempt free if you register into the Hazard Perception Test Online.

The online test is currently available in English only. If you require interpreter services, you can still make an appointment to sit the Hazard Perception Test In-person at VicRoads Customer Service Centre.

The first issue of a Victorian probationary driver licence is now free. This is a saving of $113.90 for four-year P1 probationary licences and $85.50 for a three-year P2 probationary licence.
